Was Elizabeth Leary
The Lady Barnam of Columbia, CA?
Author Catherine Gordon writes,
"I knew from my research on Soprano, Catherine Hayes that P.T. Barnam sent some of his singing stars to California during the Gold Rush. When I began learning more about Elizabeth Leary, I discovered that she must have had significant dealings with P.T. Barnam and his agent, William Bushnell. I was surprised to learn that the other celebrity songbird that Mrs. Leary presented at her assembly hall, Eliza Biscaccianti, was also represented by Barnam. Clearly Elizabeth Leary was on the leading edge of fashionable entertainment in 1853.”
